Zero Lot Lines

Spanish Street“Zero lot line” is the technical term to describe building right to the edge of the property boundary line. The Village Project calls for buildings to be constructed so they border right upon the sidewalk in front, and right to the edge of the property line on both sides.

Buildings in the compact village zone will need to meet a high standard of fire resistance. This generally will mean masonry construction. In order to assure sufficient sunlight in the streets, there should be a limit to building height of four floors.

This is a timeless way of building with examples even in downtown Dover Foxcroft, ME. New rules requiring set backs and minimum lot sizes now often prohibit this.
